Ola at RemotiveLabs
Ola Nilsson is a software engineer at RemotiveLabs with around a decade of experience spanning IoT, financial services and automotive software. He joined RemotiveLabs in November 2022 and is one of the principal developers behind RemotiveStudio. He drives its UX/UI direction and works across front-end and back-end development, cloud infrastructure and integrations, taking product ideas from initial design through implementation and into production.
His work focuses on how developers explore, understand and interact with automotive software systems. RemotiveTopology provides the backbone for defining and running vehicle environments that combine virtual components and physical hardware. Through RemotiveStudio, Ola builds the visualization and interaction layer, helping developers explore vehicle network topologies, search signal databases and create dashboards displaying real-time data from running environments. This includes interfaces for navigating electronic control units (ECUs), communication channels and signals described in formats such as DBC and AUTOSAR XML (ARXML).
His experience also includes building cloud-based tools and integrations for accessing, visualizing and replaying recorded vehicle data. In a collaboration with Incari, he helped implement an integration that streamed real vehicle speed data into a human-machine interface (HMI) prototype, demonstrating how vehicle recordings can support interface development and early validation before target hardware is available.
In May 2025, Ola co-presented at the COVESA All Member Meeting in Berlin alongside NXP on virtual prototyping and AI development using cloud-based vehicle data mapped to the Vehicle Signal Specification (VSS). The presentation demonstrated how recorded vehicle data can support development and testing before physical hardware is available.
Background and related experience
Ola has around a decade of experience as a software engineer across IoT, financial services and automotive software. Outside RemotiveLabs, he founded Crankoid Game Studios, which makes indie mobile games, and shares code on GitHub.
