Jan at RemotiveLabs

Vehicle software often involves lots of configuration files in difficult to read formats. This frustration led Jan to create the simple platform concept in RemotiveTopology that makes it easy to create and understand vehicle platforms, but also provides a foundation for visualization in RemotiveStudio. Jan works on treating the vehicle topology as code. That gives it the same properties teams expect from software: versioning, review and automated tests.

Jan built the RemotiveTopology integration with Google Cloud's Horizon platform, which lets automotive teams test full virtual vehicles on Google Cloud, from Android Automotive down to the smallest MCU.

In the collaboration with useblocks, Jan showed how RemotiveTopology and Vehicle-as-Code connect to Requirements as Code and close the loop between compliance and coding. He also demonstrates how to run virtual vehicles with real CAN logs and CSV data in an open-loop simulation.

Background and related experience

Before joining RemotiveLabs in November 2023, Jan spent 19 years at Devoteam Creative Tech (formerly Jayway). He worked there as a consultant from 2004 and served as CTO from 2021. Earlier he was a consultant at Teleca, and he started out as a programmer at Studentlitteratur and the game studio Massive Entertainment.

Jan founded the open-source testing frameworks PowerMock and Awaitility. He has written about event sourcing and CQRS on the Jayway blog and spoken on the topic at JavaZone and Geekout. He shares his code on GitHub.

Jan holds an MSc in software engineering from Blekinge Institute of Technology and studied mathematics at the University of Auckland.
