Albin at RemotiveLabs
Vehicle software developers need a virtual vehicle they can run, script and test from their own laptop and their CI pipeline. Albin works across the stack that makes this possible, and he has led several user-facing features:
- Subscription and licensing: Albin built the subscription and licensing client used by RemotiveTopology. It checks a user's subscription through their RemotiveLabs CLI login or personal token, asks for consent before anonymous use, and works behind corporate HTTP proxies.
- RemotiveBus hardware plugins: He wrote the plugin API and client, in Rust, that RemotiveBus uses to talk to hardware interfaces such as CAN adapters, along with its integration tests and plugin documentation. He also led the work that lets RemotiveTopology run CAN channels over RemotiveBus.
- RemotiveDB signal databases: He designed RemotiveDB, a YAML signal-database format with a JSON Schema. He also built the tooling that converts a vehicle platform's DBC, LDF, ARXML and FIBEX databases into it, including AUTOSAR E2E and SecOC metadata.
- LIN schedule switching: He reworked the LIN scheduler in RemotiveBroker so users can switch between LIN schedule tables at runtime over gRPC, and worked on LIN channels in RemotiveTopology and RemotiveBus.
- FMU and LIN examples: For the RemotiveCar demo, he built an example that plugs an FMU behavioral model of a body control module into a topology, and a LIN slave ECU model for the rear lights. He explains the FMU approach step by step in Integrating an FMU with Python.
Beyond these features, Albin contributes wherever the team needs him. He is a major contributor to RemotiveTopology's generation code and its test suite. He has also worked on broker transports, SOME/IP support in the Python ECU simulation library, RemotiveLabs CLI features, API schemas and the RemotiveTopology instance reference documentation.
Albin also works closely with customer teams, including Volvo Cars. He supports their day-to-day use of the platform and helps out in concrete development projects. At EVS38 he presented RemotiveLabs' demo to visitors, including the systems engineering collaboration with SystemWeaver.
Throughout his career, Albin has had a soft spot for the developer role and for making developers productive. That is a big part of why he works on RemotiveTopology: building tools that make vehicle software development feel like ordinary software development.
Background and related experience
Before joining RemotiveLabs in November 2024, Albin spent 18 years as a senior consultant and developer at Devoteam Creative Tech (formerly Jayway). His assignments ranged from early Android work at Sony Ericsson and Sony Mobile to banking, retail and industrial systems. Alongside them he held roles in competence development, including Android Team Lead, Trainee Coach and Competence Lead.
Earlier, he co-founded the consultancy 518 Systemutveckling AB, and over the years he has taught many software development courses. Albin studied mathematics and computer science at Lund University. He has collected every Advent of Code star since the event began in 2015 and is looking forward to challenge every year.
